Koos Groenewald is an artist that works in the realm of Dadaesque found objects, simple linework, illustration, photography, and the digital. His work is quirky, often humorous, involves plenty of nudity and makes fun of popular culture, referring to the madness of the current episteme in particular. There’s a unique South Africanness that draws through his work, referenced in his titles, and he pokes fun at populist South Africanisms. The grotesque and the usually-disgisting into saccharine pastels. An elevation and study of the kitschery of curios and the curious. Groenewald was featured on the Autumn 2022 group exhibition at DAOR Contemporary and Serendipitous 2023.
